Madhya Pradesh Weather Update – July 17, 2025

  • Rain continues in many parts of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday.

  • The state has been witnessing heavy rainfall for the past month.

  • As a result, water levels have risen in 54 major dams across the state.

Dams Overflowing:

  • Several big dams, like

    • Johila Dam

    • Bargi Dam

    • Bansagar Dam

    • Satpura Dam
      They are overflowing due to continuous rain.

    • Authorities have opened the gates of these dams to release extra water.

Red Alert for Heavy Rain:

  • A heavy rainfall warning was issued for 12 districts, including:

    • Gwalior

    • Satna

    • Rewa

    • Shivpuri

    • Sheopur

    • And the nearby areas

Safety Advisory:

  • People living in low-lying or riverfront areas should remain vigilant.

  • Avoid unnecessary travel, especially near dams and rivers.

📍 Rainfall Stats (Last 24 Hours):

  • Jabalpur & Gwalior: 1.1 inches of rain in just 9 hours

  • Pachmarhi (only hill station): 1 inch of rain

  • Mandla: 4.5 inches of rain

  • Datia: Over 0.5 inch of rain

🌧️ Other districts with continued rainfall:

  • Ratlam

  • Ujjain

  • Damoh

  • Khajuraho (Chhatarpur)

  • Rewa, Sidhi, Balaghat

  • Shahdol, Shivpuri, Dindori

  • Mauganj, Betul, Alirajpur

🌦️ Weather in Bhopal:

  • Cloudy skies in the evening

  • Light rain was recorded during the night

🚨 Dam & River Updates:

  • Alirajpur: Rapid rise in the Ur river water level

  • Shahdol: 8 gates of Bansagar Dam opened

  • Betul (Sarni): 5 gates of Satpura Dam opened up to 2 feet

Heavy Rain Alert for Next 2 Days in MP
Meteorologists have predicted heavy rain in northern Madhya Pradesh over the next two days due to a monsoon trough passing through the state. So far this monsoon season, the state has received an average of 18.5 inches of rain, which is 7.5 inches more than the expected 11 inches by this time. The eastern region of the state has seen especially generous rainfall this year.
